The CPU is identified as a dual core, but only one processor interface
is defined. XtalOpt was designed to run in a multithreaded
environment, I suspect that there may be a threading issue locking up
the process.

Is this running in a virtual machine? If so, try configuring the VM to
use both CPU cores instead of just one. For VirtualBox, this is easy:
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#settings-processor I'm not
sure about other VM software, but is should be an option somewhere.

If this is an actual linux installation (not a VM), you may want to
spend some time figuring out why it's only using a single processor
core.
